From Montreal to Newmarket
Soulmaz Boroumand’s Canadian story began in Montreal, continued in Toronto and led to Newmarket. After the move, she wanted to know more Persian neighbours. She started a WhatsApp group.
The first introductions
Her work grew to include free workshops, introductions between residents and sharing local events. She also ran a pizza business in Toronto.
The work behind the group
Managing the group means organizing discussions, moderating conversations and encouraging members to meet in person. NewmarketToday reported around 500 members in September 2026.
Continuing the work
Newmarket Persian Hub now has a bilingual home online. Alongside the group chat, it brings together local events, businesses, young people’s work, music and practical information for newcomers.
Members can suggest an event, introduce a business, share a story or send a request. Contributions are reviewed before publication.
